Over the last thirty years Phil Sims has created arrangements and orchestrations for performers and recording artists such as the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Mel Tormé, Salvatore Andolina, BPO Grateful Dead Orchestral/Tribute Band, Wendell Rivera Latin Jazz orchestra, Nancy Boone and the Lithuania Chamber orchestra, NPR show “Prospering In America”, “Rat Pack” show, Jazz Concerto for Euphonium and Brass Ensemble and John Stevens (American Idol Finalist) Jazz Studio Orchestra Christmas Album and Mosaic Records. His writing credits include Swing, Mainstream Jazz, Latin, Patriotic and Holiday style.

With the ability to play multiple instruments, Phil has toured and performed in venues with other world class musicians such as Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Jack McDuff, Mel Tormé, Doc Severinsen, Frank Sinatra Jr., Herman’s Hermits, The Platters, Dion, Micky Dolenz and Davey Jones of the Monkees, Danny & the Juniors and Mel Lewis.

During his music career, Phil has worked as a producer, music supervisor, arranger, orchestrator, conductor and pianist. He has a Master’s Degree in Music and is gifted with perfect pitch which allows him to translate and transpose music almost in real time.

Phil’s life’s work is to touch people through his arrangements, orchestrations and compositions and to be able to provide his services to aspiring enthusiasts and music professionals everywhere. He was born and raised in Buffalo NY and currently resides there with his wife. Phil has developed a reputation for his uncanny ability to write, perform and arrange using his perfect pitch.

Since he teens, Phil has always wanted to compose and arrange music as well as perform. He has taught and mentored many musicians and continues to assist in finding work for struggling musicians. Phil has since been arranging music for orchestras, big bands and jazz performers throughout the United States.

Phil also performs with several jazz groups including his own Phil Sims Brass, where he plays his original compositions, show tunes, jazz classics and more. His big band, The Buffalo Brass, has been recorded and has received critical acclaim.
